Today I had two classes: Gothic Literature, and Global Orientations. Before those, though, I got up much earlier than needed because our cleaning person (yes, we have a cleaning person) was coming. I didn't know exactly what time, just that I had to get up to strip my bed. So, I got up, got ready, and left the dorm nearly 4 hours before my class would start. So what did I do with the time? I wandered. I found an adorable cafe called the Camera Cafe which is, as it sounds, part camera shop, part cafe. Unfortunately it was not yet open when I passed so I looked it up to see if it was really as cool as it looked and indeed, the internet says it is! So I'll have to go back and check it out another day. So then I found a Starbucks and as uninteresting as it is, sometimes a vanilla chai latte hits the spot. So I then took my drink, sat by the window, looked up, and realized I was right across from the British Museum. I love London :). Then I got some lunch, and went to class. I really liked it. He took us through an overview of the history and inspiration for early gothic architecture, which in turn spurred the development of gothic literature. Pretty cool stuff. Then the 2nd class was actually lead by the same teacher, but is just a basic London/British history and cultural studies-type class that is mandatory for all the NYU London students (of which, I found out, there are nearly 400). Then some friends and I decided to go out for fish and chips! And it was delicious, but enough grease to cary me over until the moms come to visit in a month if not for longer.
Picture of the day:
Classic.
Word of the day:
"Daft you up" = Beat you up (but "daft" alone means like foolish or crazy, as more commonly known)
